Mr. William David Wheless

Mr. William David Wheless, age 76, of Thomaston, passed away on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at Pine Pointe Hospice in Macon.

David was born on December 23, 1949, in Thomaston, Georgia, to the late William Gordon Wheless and the late Jacquelyn Underwood Wheless. He grew up in Thomaston and was a 1968 graduate of R. E. Lee Institute. David also proudly served his country as a member of the Georgia Army National Guard.

David spent decades in Florida as a self-employed contractor, using his skill and craftsmanship to modify and reinforce homes so they could better withstand Florida’s storms. He loved Florida and the years he spent there, especially the beach and time on the water boating and fishing.

David loved sports, but there was never much question about which one stood above the rest. Golf was his game, and he was quite the golfer. He enjoyed countless hours on the course and had both a genuine love and a real talent for the game. Those who knew his passion for golf can probably picture him now, somewhere on Heaven’s fairways, where the weather is perfect, the greens are always in good shape, and every drive finds the middle of the fairway.

David is survived by his daughter, Wendy Wheless of Decatur; his sisters, Cindy Wheless and Luanne Wheless McCard, both of Thomaston; his brother, Dan Wheless of Clearwater, Florida; and several members of his extended family.

Graveside funeral services for Mr. Wheless will be held Saturday, October 3, at 2:00 PM at South View Cemetery, with the Rev. Bryan McPherson officiating. The family will receive friends at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home from 12:45 PM until 1:45 PM prior to the service.
