Mrs. Sylvia Smith Salter Ivie, age 87, of Toccoa, GA, passed away Monday, July 14, 2025, at her residence.
The family will receive friends at Whitlock Mortuary in Toccoa on Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home in Thomaston on Saturday, July 19, at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in Upson Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the funeral hour.
Mrs. Ivie was born in Thomaston on September 19, 1937, to the late Joe T. and Grace Nation Smith. She was a 1955 graduate with honors of R. E. Lee Institute. She attended Georgia State College for Women, and later in life, she graduated Summa Cum Laude from Brenau College with a degree in early childhood education. While living in Thomaston, she was employed by Thomaston Mills, and while in Toccoa, she was a self-employed court transcriber. Mrs. Ivie was a member of the First Baptist Church of Toccoa. She loved and enjoyed her family very much.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ivie was preceded in death by her first husband, Ronald Elmo Salter; her second husband, Kenneth Felton Ivie; a brother, Fred Smith; and a sister, Betty Mailey. She is survived by her daughter, Gina (Mickey) Mixon of Winder, GA; her son, Jeff (Terry) Salter of Loganville, GA; two grandchildren: Blake (McKenzie) Salter and Hannah (Curt) Patillo; a sister, Brenda Dawson of Thomaston, and several nieces and nephews.
