Mrs. Sylvia Dunnahoo Smith, 81, of Thomaston, died Saturday, February 9, 2019, at Brightmoor Hospice in Griffin. Funeral services for Mrs. Smith will be held on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of the Fletcher-Day Funeral Home with Dr. Rex King officiating. Burial will follow in the Wesley Church Cemetery in Taylor County. The family of Mrs. Smith will receive friends at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5:00 until 7:00 PM. Mrs. Smith was born in The Rock on April 1, 1937, a daughter of the late George Thomas and Rosa Bell Callahan Dunnahoo. She was a 1955 graduate of R. E. Lee Institute and was formerly employed as a secretary for Special Service Freight Company. Mrs. Smith was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and served as treasurer for the VFW Club in Thomaston. Mrs. Smith is survived by a daughter, Alethia Burleson and a son, Mark Smith, both of Thomaston; a sister, Linda Parrott of Griffin; three granddaughters, Alana Burleson of Forsyth, and Amanda Smith and Jessica Smith, both of Thomaston; four grandsons, James Cape and Patrick McKenzie, both of Thomaston, Andrew Smith of Orlando, FL, and Brian Smith of Eugene, OR; and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gorman Jimmy Smith and a son, Gorman Michael Smith. Fletcher-Day Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
