Thomaston

Mrs. Shelia Grace Matheny, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at Upson Regional Medical Center. She was 64.

Mrs. Matheny was born on October 22, 1962, in Thomaston, Georgia. She was a daughter of the late Rev. Harley "Slick" McLendon, Jr. and the late Martha Ann Fleming McLendon. She was a former employee of Thomaston Mills, where she worked for 20 years, and was a cook for Whitmires, later Buckwheats. Mrs. Matheny was of the Baptist faith and attended Pritchett Memorial Baptist Church.

Shelia found happiness in life's simple pleasures. She loved tending to her flowers, visiting yard sales, and especially looked forward to the annual Peaches to Beaches Yard Sale, where she enjoyed searching for treasures and finding a good bargain. She also cherished her time spent along the Flint River, a place she loved to visit and enjoy the beauty of nature. She had a special place in her heart for her beloved dog, Coco, who brought her much joy and companionship. Above all else, Shelia's greatest pride and joy were her grandchildren. She loved each of them dearly and treasured every opportunity to spend time with them. Nothing made her happier than being surrounded by her family and making memories with those she loved most.

Mrs. Matheny is survived by her husband, Joe Partain; her four sons, Jeremy (Sherri) Matheny, Joey Matheny, Jamie (Shanna) Matheny, and John (Rachel) Matheny, all of Thomaston; her brother, Michael (Vicki) McLendon; her grandchildren, Andrew (Tannah) Matheny, Jayden Matheny, Lizzie Matheny, Brianna Coker, and Brittany Mathis; and several other grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Matheny was preceded in death by her sister, Donna McLendon Cox.
