Mrs. Martha Ann Fleming McLendon, a loving mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 5, 2026, at Eternal Hope Hospice. She was 85.
Born on December 1, 1940, in Upson County, Georgia, she was the cherished daughter of Grady A. Fleming, Sr. and Bessie Gooch Fleming. Mrs. McLendon graduated from high school and began her career in the Bleachery Division of Thomaston Mills where she retired as an inspector. A woman of deep faith, Martha Ann was a devoted member of Pritchett Memorial Baptist Church.
Martha found happiness in life's simple pleasures. She loved tending her flowers, shopping for treasures at yard sales, enjoying a good meal or snack, and watching the news and classic westerns. Following the passing of her husband, she spent twelve memorable years living in Florida. Although she couldn't swim or fish, she treasured her time there and embraced the beauty and experiences of her Florida years.
She leaves behind a loving family to cherish her memory, her daughter, Shelia (Joe Partain) Matheny; her son, Michael (Vickey) McLendon; her grandsons, Josh McLendon, Christopher Nelson, Jeremy (Sherri) Matheny, Joey Matheny, Jamie (Shanna) Matheny, John (Rachel) Matheny, and Brandon Cox; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, all of whom brought tremendous joy and pride to her life.
Mrs. McLendon was the devoted wife of Rev. Harley "Slick" McLendon, Jr. Together they built a family centered on love, faith, and resilience. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband; her daughter, Donna McLendon Cox; her granddaughter, Daisy McLendon; her parents; her brothers, Rufus Fleming, Grady A. Fleming, Jr., and Donnie Ray Fleming; her sister, Geneva Huckaby; and her beloved dog, Rebel, whom she spoiled endlessly and affectionately called "the best boy of the bunch."
Above all else, Martha Ann's greatest joy was her family. She loved her children, grandchildren, and extended family with all her heart and took immense pride in each of them. Her unwavering love, quiet strength, and steadfast devotion created a legacy that will continue through the generations she leaves behind.
Funeral services for Mrs. McLendon will be held on Wednesday, July 8, at 11:00 AM, at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home. Rev. Eddie Mathews and Rev. Rick Rose will officiate, and interment will follow at New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM, at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home.
Mrs. Martha Ann Fleming McLendon will be remembered for her faith, perseverance, kindness, and enduring love for her family. Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know and love her.
