Funeral services for Mrs. Radcliffe will be held on Monday, August 24, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home, Thomaston, GA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 until the service time at the funeral home.
Mrs. Radcliffe was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil Alvin and Tessa Faye Carraway and her beloved husband of 71 years, Hugh Frank Radcliffe. Survivors include her four children: Sons Rip Radcliffe, wife Diane, of Mt. Dora, FL and Kenneth Radcliffe, wife Peggy, of Gainesville, FL. Daughters Sherri Radcliffe of Port St. Lucie, FL and Sheila Richey, husband Mark, of Ila, GA; her dear grandchildren: Jessica Harrison, Joshua Radcliffe, Brooks Radcliffe, Blake Radcliffe, and Isaac Radcliffe, and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by five sisters, one brother, one brother-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Radcliffe was born and grew up in the Thomaston area. She graduated from R.E. Lee High School in 1948 and married her husband, Hugh Frank. They lived in several states while he played professional baseball. Eventually, they settled in Commerce, Georgia. While in Commerce, she was a mother and housewife and also started working with handicapped children. She subsequently attended the University of Georgia and graduated with honors in 1986. She became a certified teacher and made a career working with special needs children until her retirement from the Madison County School District. She then relocated to Florida with her husband and lived at the edge of the Suwannee River for 10 years after which she and Hugh Frank returned to Comer, Georgia to live. During her life she enjoyed traveling with her sisters, family and friends. Mrs. Radcliffe claimed Christianity and was a Baptist. She was an active member of the Commerce First Baptist Church and later the Comer First Baptist Church. She brought up her children in the Christian faith and has always remained a believer.
She loved her whole family intensely and was known by them as being the one who always showed up. Caregiving was her love language. She loved being a mother to her four children, and when she became a grandmother, she cherished each of them. And of course being a great-grandmother gave her a special kind of joy.
We are so grateful for this amazing woman and for all the love and support given to our family during this time.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Special Olympics or the Tim Tebow Foundation.
