Mrs. Janice Elizabeth Howell Baucom

July 13, 1937 — May 16, 2026

Mrs. Janice Elizabeth Howell Baucom, affectionately known as Janie, passed away on May 16, 2026. She was 88 years old. She was known for her banana nut bread, chocolate brownies, and for her love of black coffee.

Janie was born on July 13, 1937 in Pelham, Georgia and later moved to Tampa, Florida. As an adult her family relocated to Albany, Georgia. She lived out her final years with her son, Paul Baucom, and family in Thomaston, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Pauline Howell Wools and Edison Howell. She is preceded in death by two sisters, Ramona “Mona” McCarty and Betty Lou Lee, and a brother, Freddy Howell.

Her proudest accomplishment was her family. She is survived by her son, Paul (Ann) Baucom of Thomaston and son-in-law, Alan (Sharon) Broome, and preceded in death by her husband, Olen, and daughter, Robin Broome. She leaves behind a legacy of seven grandchildren, Tabetha (Steve) Renner, Courtney (Joe) Ellingson, Hannah (Nick) Keene, Haley (Dakota) Green, Aryn Baucom, Rhett (Madison) Baucom, and Evan (Mya) Baucom, and six great grandchildren, Blake Ragin, Charley Ragin, Zoe Ellingson, Kannon Keene, Reece Green, and Brooklynn Keene.

A graveside service will be held on May 27, at 11am at Southview Cemetery in Thomaston, Georgia. Rickie Baucom will officiate.

In lieu of flowers those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Cancer Research Institute.
