Mrs. Evelyn Duncan Barfield, 96, of Thomaston, died Wednesday, February 27, 2019, at the Dublinair Nursing Home in Dublin. Funeral services for Mrs. Barfield will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2019, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of the Fletcher-Day Funeral Home. Interment will follow in South View Cemetery. The family of Mrs. Barfield will receive friends at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home on Saturday from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 PM. Mrs. Barfield was born on November 28, 1922, in the Lifsey Springs Community of Pike County, a daughter of the late Eddie Lee and Mattie Clay Mangham Duncan. Prior to her retirement she was employed in the payroll office of the Bleachery Division of Thomaston Mills for over 30 years. Mrs. Barfield was a member of Silvertown Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School in the junior and adult departments for many years. She was also a member of the Happy Hearts choir. Mrs. Barfield is survived by her son, John L. "Johnny" Barfield of Cochran; one grandson, John L. "Les" (Candi) Barfield III of Dexter; one granddaughter, India Marie Barfield of Athens; and two great grandchildren, Morgan and Ollie Barfield. Several nephews and their families also survive. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, John L. "Buster" Barfield, Sr.,; and three sisters, Alice Duncan, Inez Duncan Pitts, and Vera Duncan Watts. Memorial contributions may be made to Silvertown Baptist Church, 300 West Goodrich Avenue, Thomaston, GA 30286. Fletcher-Day Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
