Mrs. Betty Sue Cochran Hill, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 14, 2026, at Providence Health and Rehab. She was 76.
She was born on August 30, 1949, in Crawford County, Georgia. Betty had a special love for children and was truly a mother to everyone. She opened her heart and home to many throughout her life, including serving as a foster parent. Generous and selfless, Betty was always willing to help someone in need. She had a kind heart, never met a stranger, and had a way of making everyone feel welcome and loved. She earned her GED and, at the age of 43, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from Mercer University. Her determination to continue her education was an example of her strength and perseverance.
Betty will be remembered for her strong faith, generous spirit, kind heart, and unconditional love for others. She touched many lives simply by being there when someone needed her. Betty was a faithful member of East Thomaston Baptist Church. Her family and her faith were at the center of her life.
She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Martin James Hill; her children, Angela Giles of Thomaston; Andrew Martin Long of Thomaston; Emory Dale Long of Braxton, Mississippi; and Jonathan (Jennifer) Hill of Thomaston; her sisters, Ida Mae Bunn and Fannie Bell Cochran; she treasured being a grandmother and dearly loved her eleven grandchildren: Brandon Long, Elizabeth Ann Long, Kaitlyn Cook, Hannah Giles, Hunter (Hope) Giles, Cyrus Fulcher, McKenna Hill, Araminta Hill, Josh Hill, Emily Hill, and Isaac Hill. She is also survived by eight great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack Lenard Cochran and Meta Allene Hollis; her daughter, Melissa Hill; and her brother, Bill “Buddy” Cochran.
Funeral services for Mrs. Hill will be held on Sunday, August 16, at 3:00 PM, at East Thomaston Baptist Church. Rev. Joey Smith will officiate, and interment will follow at Upson Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be held on Sunday, from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM at East Thomaston Baptist Church.
Betty will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family, friends, and the many people whose lives she touched. Her kindness, generosity, and love will live on through all those who were blessed to know her.
