Mrs. Betty Ellington English

December 23, 1924 — April 6, 2026

Mrs. Betty Ellington English, age 101, of Forsyth, Georgia, and formerly of Thomaston, died Monday, April 6, 2026, at River Place Assisted Living Care in Forsyth. Graveside funeral services for Mrs. English will be held Friday, April 10, at 11:00 AM, at Monroe Hills Memorial Gardens. Rev. Ken Stephens will officiate. The family will receive friends Friday from 10:30 until 11:00 at the graveside.

Mrs. English was born in Upson County on December 23, 1924, to the late Paul F. Ellington, Sr. and the late Rochelle Hudgins Ellington. After the death of her father when she was ten, she was raised primarily by her grandparents, David and Minnie Hudgins. She was a graduate of R. E. Lee Institute and was a homemaker. While living in the Northside area of Thomaston, Mrs. English was like a second mother to many neighborhood children. She found much happiness in caring for her flowers and her pets. Mrs. English was a member of the Forsyth Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. English was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton Greene English, Sr.; a daughter, Diane English Bentley; a son, Phillip R. English, and a brother, Paul F. Ellington, Jr. She is survived by two sons, David (Betti) English of Stone Mountain, GA, and Clay (Marcia) English of Forsyth; ten grandchildren: David Allen English, Carrie English (Stephen) Wallace, Brandt Bentley, Brandian Bentley (Joel) Hadaway, Adam (Emmy) English, Anna English (Brian) Barfield, Phillip (Laurie) English, Kimberly (Ryan Sullivan) English, Matthew (Katie) English, and Mitchell English. Thirteen great grandchildren also survive.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staffs of River Place and Eternal Hope Hospice for the compassion and care shown to Mrs. English.
