Mrs. Ann Gordy Vickers

April 7, 1934 — July 23, 2025

Mrs. Ann Gordy Vickers, age 91, of Thomaston, passed away on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at Riverside Health and Rehab.

Ann was born on April 7, 1934, to the late Oscar Leonard Gordy and the late Tommie Byrd Mauldin Gordy. She was born at their home, and the home, which still stands today, was in their family for over 91 years until it was sold in 2023 to a wonderful family.

Ann attended Jeff Davis Grammar School through the eighth grade, graduating as Valedictorian of her class. She then attended James R. Atwater school for one year and then graduated from R. E. Lee Institute in the class of 1952. After high school, she went to work for Adams Insurance and Tax Service for about two years and then moved to Macon where she was employed by Georgia Loan and Trust Company. In 1957 she moved back to Thomaston and was asked to take a three-month job with Atlanta Gas Light Company – a job which turned out to last 37 years, 3 months, and 3 days, until the company closed the local office. She and some coworkers retired in February, 1995. Ann was a long-time member of Valley Grove Baptist Church, and was one of the oldest, if not the oldest, member at the time of her death. After retirement, Ann and Ollie enjoyed working in their yard, going out to eat, shopping, and being together with family and friends. They also enjoyed all the animals that adopted them.

In addition to her parents, Ann was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Thomas Hunt Mauldin and Birdie Emma Thompson Mauldin; her paternal grandparents, Oscar Gnome Gordy and Martha Susie Braddy Gordy; her husband and the love of her life for more than 55 years, Ollie Royce Vickers; her sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Harvel Estes; her aunt, Bessilu Mauldin; and her step daughter, Pam Scott. Survivors include her niece, Rhonda (John) Moseley of Florence, AL; two great nieces: Jennifer Moseley of Huntsville, AL, and Ashley (Mike) Migliaccio of Collierville, TN; two great-great nephews: Jonah and Eli Migliaccio of Collierville, TN; son-in-law, Tyre D. Scott of Macon, GA; granddaughter, Megan (Patrick) Sparks of Swannanoa, NC; and her special dear friend and caregiver for over 30 years, Emma Weston and family. Emma has been there for Ann and Ollie every step of the way, and for that the family is so thankful. Many extended family members whom she loved dearly also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Vickers will be held on Tuesday, July 29, at 11:00 AM, in the chapel of Fletcher-Day Funeral Home. Rev. Maurice Raines will officiate, and interment will follow at South View Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at the funeral home.

The family wishes to express thanks for every act of kindness that has been shown to them.
