Mr. Ronald Barfield, a distinguished attorney and respected community leader, passed away peacefully at his home in Thomaston, Georgia, on Sunday, May 24, 2026. He was 89.

Born on November 2, 1936, in Thomaston, Mr. Barfield's life was marked by dedicated service, professional accomplishment, and a profound commitment to his family and community. A native son of Thomaston, Mr. Barfield graduated from the R.E. Lee Institute before pursuing his legal education at the University of Georgia School of Law, earning his Juris Doctorate. His commitment to public service began early with his honorable duty in the U.S. Army JAG Corps, where he served with distinction.

Mr. Barfield began his legal career in 1963 and joined Dickson Adams in private practice the following year. The firm is now known as Adams, Barfield, and Baity. Over the decades, he became a cornerstone of the legal and civic community in Thomaston and Upson County, serving as counsel for the City, County, School Board, Hospital, and Airport Authority. He also played a key role in establishing the Thomaston-Upson Office Building Authority, the Downtown Development Authority, and the Thomaston-Upson Industrial Development Authority, helping guide the region’s growth and development.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Mr. Barfield was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder, trustee, and contributed his talents on various committees. He was an avid fan of the Georgia Bulldogs, had a deep love for his dogs, bird hunting, and fishing. Among all his interests, his greatest joy was the love and companionship he shared with his late wife, Nancy Kate Dover Barfield.

Mr. Barfield is survived by his three children: Webster Barfield and his wife Karen; Catherine Barfield Baity; and Drs. Malcolm Barfield and his wife Kitti. His legacy is also carried on by his grandchildren: Silas Webster Barfield and his wife Emily; Anna Catherine “Catie” Evans; Lily Dover Baity; Jason Malcolm Barfield, II and his wife Hannah; and Jacob Bedford Barfield. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Loquita Dover Jordan, and her three sons, Trey, Mitch, and Lee, their spouses and children.

In addition to his beloved Nancy, he was preceded in death by his parents, Jason Malcolm Barfield and Nettie Lee Barfield, and his brother, Roberts Frederick Barfield, Sr.

Funeral services for Mr. Barfield will be held on Thursday, May 28, at 11:00 AM, at First Presbyterian Church of Thomaston. Dr. Glenn Gilstrap will officiate and interment will follow at South View Cemetery. The family of Mr. Barfield will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home.
