Mr. James W. "Jimmy" Ellington, age 91, of Thomaston, passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Brightmoor Hospice in Griffin.
Mr. Ellington was born in Thomaston, Georgia, on September 29, 1934, a son of the late James Henry Ellington and the late Mattie Baggarly Ellington. He served in the Army National Guard. He worked many years as a life insurance agent. He was an assistant magistrate judge for Upson County and later served as interim magistrate judge. He enjoyed raising, training, and showing Tennessee Walking horses. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was a member of Milner Baptist Church.
Mr. Ellington is survived by his daughter, Lezlie (Pete) Hudson of Butler; his son, Dr. Brad (Carolyn) Ellington of Milner; his brothers, Harvey Ellington of Thomaston and Ronald (Theresa) Ellington of Macon; his seven grandchildren, Jennifer (Roger) Welch of Mauk, Angel (Clayton) Stucker of New Mexico, Peter (Libby) Hudson, Jr. of Madison, Casey (Brian) Baker of Warner Robins, Felicia (Michael) Robinson of Byron, Rev. Micah (Sarah) Ellington of Pooler, and Caleb (Brooke) Ellington of Baxley; his seventeen great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
In addition to his parents, Jimmy is preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Erma Jean Alsobrook Ellington, his daughter, Cassandra Faith Ellington, and his sister, Kathy Maddox.
A graveside funeral service for Mr. Ellington will be held on Saturday, February 14, at 2:00 PM, at South View Cemetery. Dr. Brad Ellington will officiate, and the family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Milner Baptist Church, 107 Pecan Drive, Milner, GA 30257.
