It is with much sadness that we announce our beloved father, James LaDon Day, went to be with the Lord peacefully on Monday, April 27, 2026. He was a devout Christian, loved his country and never met a stranger. His favorite bible verse is John 3:16. He was born and raised in Irwinville, GA on December 3, 1945. He enjoyed working on the family farm, loved his animals and dogs, being outdoors where he loved watching the birds, tending to flowers and the family garden, reading books, being with his family and viewing the sunsets. Many know him because the vegetables he shared. He served honorably in the United States Army and was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War where he received a Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He was active in Veteran support for the rest of his life. He was a devout fan of the UGA sports teams where he attended school and had a successful career for over 40 years. He was a brilliant and experienced crop and animal scientist and thoroughly enjoyed having long conversations about his career.
Left behind are his wife of 55 years, Janice, who loved and cherished him so much. Their marriage resonates throughout his family. He had so much love for his three children Chad, Josh (Leslie) and Erin (Joe). He has 5 grandchildren who loved him so dearly and was so close with, Dakota (Gayla), Jessica, Luke, Savannah, and Scarlett. Siblings Jerry (Linda), and Deborah and nieces and nephews Ricky, Michael, and Jennifer. He was proceeded in death by his father JR, mother Virginia, brother Eugene, nephew Jason, and mother-in-law Mary Lenoir , father-in-law Lawrence, and sister-in-laws Monica, Carol, and Paula Rawlins.
The graveside funeral will be held on Sunday, May 3, at 2:00 PM, at The Rock Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Jason Weems officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home.
