Mr. Jack T. McDonald, Jr., a well-known body repairman, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Harborview Healthcare in Thomaston, Georgia. He was 80.
Born on August 21, 1945, in Upson County, GA, Jack dedicated much of his life to his craft and his passions. Jack’s career spanned many years as the owner and operator of McDonalds Body Shop. Later, he continued his work at Steve Hannah's Body Shop, where his skills and dedication were greatly appreciated. He was known not only for his professional abilities but also for the care and attention he gave to every job.
He graduated from R.E. Lee Institute in 1963 and attended Upson Tech, gaining knowledge that helped him in his trade. Outside of work, Jack enjoyed a variety of hobbies that brought him joy and connected him to others. He was an avid fisherman who cherished time by the Flint River, a place he loved deeply. Music was another big part of Jack’s life. He played guitar in several local bands and had a true passion for music that resonated with many who knew him. Jack was a member of Thomaston First Methodist Church.
Jack is survived by his former wife and caregiver, Cheryl Pharr McDonald; daughter, Elisabeth "Beth" McDonald of Marietta; son, Sam McDonald of Thomaston; and a step daughter, Lisa Sikes of Macon; and two grandsons, Gabe and Julian Bernardino.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Jack T. McDonald, Sr. and Mary Fowler McDonald; his wife, Debra McDonald; a daughter, Amy McDonald, and a brother, Jeff McDonald.
A graveside service to honor Jack's life will be held on Saturday, March 21, at 2:00 PM, at Upson Memorial Gardens. Rev. Bob Wilson will officiate, and the family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.
Those desiring may make memorial contributions in memory of Jack to Trinity Baptist Church, 410 South Church Street, Thomaston, GA or to a charity of the donors choice.
Jack T. McDonald, Jr. lived a life marked by hard work, love for his family, and a deep connection to the outdoors and music. His memory will be treasured by all who knew him.
