Harold Boyt Corley, age 79, of Thomaston, GA, died Saturday, January 9, 2016, at Emory University Hospital Midtown in Atlanta, GA. Funeral services for Mr. Corley will be held Tuesday, January 12, at 2:00 PM, at the First Baptist Church of Thomaston. Rev. Bill Barber will officiate, and burial will follow in New Hope Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Yatesville. Mr. Corley was the son of the late Zack and Nettie Boyt Corley. He was a graduate of Yatesville High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation where he was Shop Manager for 33 years. He was a well-known local farmer who raised cattle, peaches, and vegetables. Mr. Corley was a member of the Georgia Cattleman's Association. He also enjoyed construction. He was a member and former Deacon of the First Baptist Church of Thomaston, and he was involved with transporting children of the church to choir. He had served on the Church's Benevolence Committee, worked with the House of Care, and was a member of the Georgia Baptist Disaster Relief. Mr. Corley had also traveled to Zambia, Africa, on a church mission trip. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Skidmore Corley of Thomaston; two sons: Mike L. (Sandra) Bates of Yatesville, and Todd I. (Linda) Bates of Thomaston; a daughter, Lori (Jimmy) Passmore of Yatesville; a step daughter, Kimberly (Scott) Sawyer, of Fortson; a step son, Brant (Nancy) Skidmore, of Cumming; a brother, Robert L. (Barbara) Corley of Thomaston; a grandson, Rick (Megan) Ellington of Thomaston; a granddaughter, Samantha Ellington of Thomaston; a grandson, Joshua (Mallory Allen) Bates, of Thomaston; a granddaughter, Karen (Michael) Stephens, of Thomaston; three step grandsons, Seth and Brantley Sawyer, of Fortson, and Will Skidmore, of Cumming; a step granddaughter, Sydney Skidmore, of Cumming. He is also survived by two great grandchildren; a special niece, Ann Pasley; caregiver and friend, Tammy Weason; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
