Mrs. Dyer was born on January 18th, 1911 in Ashland City, TN, a daughter of the late George W. Mitchell and Myrtle Shearon Mitchell. She and her family moved to Thomaston in 1917. She attended the public schools in Thomaston and was a 1928 graduate and class valedictorian of R. E. Lee Institute. Mrs. Dyer joined the First Baptist Church of Thomaston by letter on April 20th, 1941. She was very active in the life of the church, taking part in the Sunday School program, Vacation Bible School, Training Union, GA's, the Women's Missionary Union and the senior adults. Mrs. Dyer had perfect attendance in Sunday School for 27 years. Mrs. Dyer was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey J. Dyer on September 18th, 1973. Mrs. Dyer is survived by her daughter, Miss Rosemary Dyer of Thomaston and her son, Dr. Richard (Barbara) Dyer of Norris, TN; two sisters, Miss Edna Ruth Mitchell and Miss Evelyn Mitchell, both of Thomaston; two grandchildren, Virginia 'Jenny' Dyer and Jeff (Stephanie) Dyer, and two great grandsons, Sean Dyer and Forrest Dyer, all of Knoxville, TN.
